ROME, Ga. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes
Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez and
Andrew Imrie became the second doubles team in school history to earn All-America after they won their first round match at the ITA Cup being held on the campus of Berry College.
Castillo-Sanchez and Imrie defeated a twosome from McMurry University 7-6, 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals and earn All-America status. Castillo-Sanchez, a senior, was an All-America in doubles as a freshman, while this is the first honor for Imrie, a junior. They play either a team from Case Western Reserve or Johns Hopkins University on Friday.
In singles, Castillo-Sanchez, an All-America this year, dropped his first round match 6-3, 6-2 from an opponent from Middlebury College, but bounced back in the consolation round to beat the top seed, Leo Vithoontien of Carleton College, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
Action continues on Friday and concludes on Saturday.
