Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Kevin Beattie, Associate Athletic Director

Field Hockey Wins Fourth Straight Game, 7-0

TROY, N.Y. - Four student-athletes had multiple points, led by two goals from Nina Caprio, and the defense allowed just two shots on goal as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team defeated Russell Sage College 7-0 to extend its winning streak to four games. The Engineers improve to 6-6 overall, while the Gators drop to 1-12.

With her two goals, Caprio, a freshman attack, now has a pair of markers in each of her last three games. She has a team-high eight goals this year. Her first of the contest came in a four-goal third quarter when she finished a feed from classmate Rachel Banister at 2:10 of the frame. It came just 55 seconds after Lauren McCarthy tipped home a Abby Peterson shot from the left side of the circle for a 4-0 lead. Caprio later gave the Engineers a 6-0 lead when she completed a two-on-one with sophomore Delani Bonci late in the third, tapping the ball past a lunging keeper.

Brianna Duba, a junior, set up the first goal, the result of a Jessie House drive with 2:56 left in the first quarter. Duba later scored, her fourth of the season, off a penalty stroke blast that was assisted by Ava Richard.

Lauren Roy and Holly Rolfs set each other up just a couple of minutes apart in the second quarter to turn a 1-0 lead into a 3-0 advantage and that is how the half ended.

Jen Richardson and Izzy Putnam both had a single save in the shutout, RPI's fifth of the year and third in its last four games. The Engineers had a 16-2 advantage in shots and registered an 11-1 edge in penalty corners.

The Gators got eight saves from senior Abigayle Greier and both of their shots came off the stick of junior Alyssa Fitzgerald.

Sage is back in action on Saturday against Empire 8 foe Elmira College, while RPI concludes its five-game homestand on Friday with a Liberty League matchup against Union College (4pm).
