VERONA, N.Y. – Senior
Joey Harrigan shot a tournament-low 70 in Round 1 of the Liberty League Fall Preview on Saturday, giving the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's golf team a two-stroke lead over New York University heading into Sunday's final round at the Turning Stone Shenendoah course.
Rensselaer shot a combined +3 (291) on the day, with Harrington being followed closely by teammates
Owen Himmer (72) and
Trent Han (3), who finished day tied for fourth and seventh overall, respectively.
Matt Buckley added a 76, while
Thomas Fraser carded a 78 to round out the Engineers' scorers.
Harrigan and Himmer each collected five birdies on the day, while the team shot a combined -5 on the courses par 5 holes. The Engineers' 17 total birdies led the way, with Skidmore and NYU behind with 13 apiece.
The second and final round of play tees off on Sunday morning at 11:30am.
