SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Senior
Ryan Quinn shot an even par 72 to lead all competitors and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) golf team shot a combined 304 to defeat Skidmore College by nine strokes in a match at Saratoga Spa State Park. The match was the season opener for both squads.
Quinn, a national All-American last season, had two birdies (3rd & 6th) and a double bogey (8th) with six pars for an even front nine (36) before rebounding from a triple bogey 10th hole with two birdies (11th & 17th) and an eagle (12th). He finished with a 36 on the back on his way to a three-stroke victory.
Teammate
Matt Buckley, a freshman, was second overall with a 3-over 75, thanks to a pair of birdies on the back that helped him to a 1-under coming in. Classmate
Owen Himmer was also 1-under on the back and he finished third on the team and fifth overall with a 78.
Skidmore was led by Harry Grosso, who was third overall with a 76. Will Tone was next with a 77.
The Engineers return to action on Sunday in the Liberty League Preview to be held at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, New York.Â
