Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TROY, N.Y. - Ryan Yerby allowed only five hits with nine strikeouts in a complete game to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team to a 5-1 victory in the first game of a doubleheader against Vassar College before the visitors came back to capture the nightcap, 10-4. The two Liberty League teams conclude the regular season with another twin bill on Sunday, that one in Poughkeepsie beginning at noon.

Yerby, who threw a 7-inning no hitter last week, went the full seven innings again, allowing four singles and a home run. He struck out nine of the 27 batters he faced with two walks in improving to 2-0. 

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when RPI's Martin Marintchev plated a pair of runs with a bases loaded double high off of the fence in right centerfield. Vassar answered in the fifth with a home run to left centerfield from Adam Talwalkar, but Yerby came back and struck out the next three batters to end the inning.

The Brewers had a chance to tie the score in the sixth inning when Andrew Kanellis singled with two runners on base, but teammate Ezra Caspi was tagged out in a rundown between third base and home in his attempt to score. RPI then tacked on three runs in their half of the sixth inning with the help of one hit, two walks, a hit by pitch and a pair of Vassar errors.

Offensively for the Engineers, five different players had a hit apiece, including Marintchev, who also scored a run. Joe Curci had a hit and two runs scored.

Caspi had two of Vassar's five hits and senior Patrick Fitzgerald went the distance on the mound, allowing two earned runs with five strikeouts. He walked four.

The Brewers jumped out to an early lead in game two and never relinquished their advantage. They scored three times on four hits in the first inning, including a two-run double by Bryce Grathwohl, and once in the second for a 4-2 lead after two innings. 

Vassar added four more runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-RBI triple into the left centerfield gap from Alex Warren, for an 8-2 lead. In the top of the inning, Eric Zeppa knocked home Peter Close with an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to 8-3, but two runs by the Brewers in the eighth made it 10-3.

Five different Vassar (7-11; 6-8 Liberty League) players had multiple hits in the second game, led by Caspi, who went 3 for 4 with two runs and two runs batted in. Jaden Millstein was also 3 for 4, along with three runs and an RBI. Ty Langford pitched seven innings of relief, allowing two runs on six hits, for the win.

Curci, Close, Zepp and Richard Drum all had multiple hits for the Engineers (4-8; 4-8 Liberty League), who saw Chris Grome take the loss.
