TROY, N.Y. – Former Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball standout Bill Snyder '97 has been recognized among the greatest players in Division III baseball history, earning selection to the D3baseball.com 50th Anniversary Golden Team, a prestigious honor recognizing 68 of the top student-athletes from the past five decades of NCAA Division III baseball.

One of the most accomplished pitchers in RPI baseball history, Snyder enjoyed a remarkable four-year career from 1994-97, establishing himself as both a conference and national standout while helping elevate the Engineers to unprecedented success. His selection to the Golden Team adds another milestone to a decorated career that previously earned him induction into the RPI Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004.

Snyder played a pivotal role in one of the most successful eras in program history, highlighted by RPI's historic run to its first-ever NCAA Division III College World Series appearance in 1996. He earned the victory in the championship game of the NCAA Regional to send the Engineers to the national finals, capping a season in which he led all of NCAA Division III with a 1.03 earned run average. That year, RPI also finished with the nation's top pitching staff, posting a 2.04 team ERA, while Snyder was recognized as the unanimous UCAA Pitcher of the Year, ECAC Player of the Year, a First Team All-UCAA, First Team All-ECAC, All-Region, and Third Team All-American selection. He also received the team's Most Improved Player Award.

Snyder elevated his game even further during his senior campaign in 1997. Serving as team captain after being recognized as a Collegiate Baseball Preseason Player to Watch, he established RPI single-season records with 126 strikeouts and nine complete games. Nationally, he ranked second in Division III in strikeouts per game (13.2) and seventh in earned run average (1.67) while once again anchoring the nation's top pitching staff. RPI's 2.42 team ERA marked the second consecutive season the Engineers led all NCAA teams in earned run average, becoming the first program in NCAA history, at any division, to lead the nation in team ERA in back-to-back seasons.

For his outstanding senior season, Snyder was named Team MVP, UCAA Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season, First Team All-UCAA, UCAA All-Academic, First Team All-ECAC, All-Region, NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team, and a First Team All-American.

Snyder concluded his collegiate career as the RPI record holder in career shutouts (6), earned run average (2.27), and complete games (17) while compiling a 19-10 record, seven saves, 267 strikeouts, and a remarkable 1.01 WHIP over 208.0 innings pitched. Opposing hitters batted just .179 against him during his career, underscoring his dominance on the mound.

Following graduation, Snyder was selected in the 27th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Detroit Tigers and advanced to the Class AAA level, the highest level ever reached by an RPI baseball alum.
