TROY, N.Y. - For the second consecutive year, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete
Andrew Imrie has been selected to the Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team, selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Imrie, a senior who plays tennis, advances to the CoSIDA National Academic All-America ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in early August.
A computer science and mathematics dual major, Imrie (Andover, MA / Andover) was nominated with a 3.76 cumulative grade point average. Prior to graduating in May, he was a teaching assistant in Data Structures and Database Systems, while also participating in the R-pirates, a data science club. Imrie, who held internships with Percussion (software development), Optum (technology development) and Capital One (software development), is now a software engineer with Capital One in Virginia.
A member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), he was a four-year performer and a mulitple-year captain. He was All-Liberty League First Team in singles twice and in doubles three times, which does not include the 2019-20 season due to its cancelation because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Imrie did capture National All-America status in doubles from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, which ranked him and playing partner
Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez (Wesley Chapel, FL / Wiregrass Ranch) at No. 11 in Division III and No. 4 in the Northeast Region last season.
Imrie was All-Conference in both singles and doubles this year after going 5-0 and 5-1, respectively. Each of his victories came in dual match play and three were in league competition. He and Castillo-Sanchez were ranked No. 22 in the final national ranking and No. 5 in the region. He was listed at No. 22 in the region in singles. As a team, the Engineers, who are coached by
Jon Satkowski, were undefeated in the regular season (4-0) and were the top seed in the Liberty League Tournament. Like the 2019-20 campaign, the season was truncated due to the pandemic.
Imrie concluded his career with 29 wins in 53 singles matches and a 48-21 record in doubles. He was 23-16 (singles) and 33-13 (doubles) in dual match play and 15-4 in league play in both singles and doubles.
