MACEDON, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) golf team began its 2021-22 season at the St. John Fisher Invitational and the Engineers hold a 7-shot lead after the first day of the 2-day event, compiling a 295 on the Blue Heron Hills Country Club course. Action concludes on Monday beginning at 8am.
Junior
Thomas Fraser is in the lead after carding a +1, 72 on the par 71, 6739 yard course. He had three consecutive birdies on holes 3-4-5 and went out at -2, 34. He rattled off eight pars on the back nine.
Sophomore
Matt Buckley is second in the 44-person field after shooting a +2, 73. He had a birdie on the front nine and finished +1 before registering eight pars on the back for another 1-over. Senior
Joey Harrigan is one of four who are tied for third place after an even front nine and a 3-over back. He finished with four birdies, including three on the front, and nine pars in his round.
Trent Han, another senior, shot a +5 that included four birdies and is currently tied for 11th place. Freshman
Jacob Lindsay, who is playing as an individual, finished 8-over and teammate
Owen Himmer was one shot more than Lindsay.
The Engineers are seven strokes in front of both Stevenson and McDaniel, while St. John Fisher is in fourth place in the 7-school tournament.
