MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete
Aiden Drover-Mattinen, the No. 1 overall seed, won two singles matches and advanced to the semifinals of the national Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup tournament taking place at the Rome Tennis Center. With the victories, he has earned an All-America citation.
A sophomore, Drover-Mattinen, won his first round match over Marco Siviero, a sophomore from Gustavus Adolphus, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2), before winning a third-set tiebreak over Nolan Shah, a junior from Emory, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4). He faces Tristan Bradley of Bowdoin, the No. 4 seed, on Friday at 10:30am. Bradley won his first two matches in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 over an opponent from Chapman and 6-0, 6-3 against a foe from Sewanee.
In doubles, Drover-Mattinen and
Andy Zhu, a freshman, took a first round loss, dropping a 7-5, 6-1 decision to Shawn Berdia and Jason Shuler of Williams.
