TROY, N.Y. - A pair of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis student-athletes have been chosen for weekly awards by the Liberty League, it has been announced. Freshman
Aiden Drover-Mattinen is the Singles Performer of the Week and part of the Doubles Team of the Week, along with senior
Peter Lohrbach.
In two dual matches on the road, Drover-Mattinen (Portugal Cove - St. Philips, NL / Blyth Academy) was 2-0 while playing No. 1 singles. He defeated his foe from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) 6-0, 6-1 on Saturday in a match that RPI won 9-0. The next morning at the University of Rochester, he posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over the No. 1 singles player for the Yellowjackets, a senior. The Engineers won that match 9-0.
In doubles, Drover-Mattinen and Lohrbach (Little Neck, NY North Port) went 2-0 while playing No. 1. They defeated RIT's top team 8-6 before dispatching the No. 1 duo from Rochester 8-7 (7-3).
Lohrbach, a captain, also played No. 4 singles in both matches. He had a 6-2, 6-2 win against the Tigers and a 6-1, 6-1 triumph on Sunday.
This is the first weekly award of the 2021-22 season for Lohrbach and the fourth for Drover-Mattinen. He was the Rookie of the Week once and the Singles Performer of the Week twice during the fall semester.
RPI, which is coached by
Jon Satkowski, is back in action on Saturday at Babson College (3:15pm).
