UTICA, N.Y. - Maria Domingo won the pentathlon, Jacy Scharlow captured the high jump and Morgan Lee was first in the 3000 meters to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's track & field team to a first place finish in the 14-school, multi-divisional Utica College Pioneer Invitational. The Engineers compiled 141 points for a 28-point win over the second place team, Lock Haven University (113). Colgate University (93) was third, Utica was fourth (82) and Siena College was fifth (64).

Domingo, a sophomore, won the 60 Hurdles and finished second in each of the other four events for a total of 2333 points. She was 113 points ahead of teammate Maya Verma, who was the runner-up, and 115 in front of Holly Lauzon, also of the Engineers.

A junior, Scharlow captured the high jump by .10 over the runner-up as she hit the 1.61 mark on her third attempt at that height. Makiya Donnelly of Utica was second (1.51).

Lee, also a junior, won her race in a time of 10:01.6, which was nearly three seconds ahead of Colgate's Sophia Manners. Lee was second to Manners through the first 2200 meters before surging ahead by 2400 meters and holding the margin. She finished with her best 200 meters of 36.42. RPI's Nia Goddard was third in the 12-competitor event with a 10:17.49.

In addition to Verma in the heptathlon, the Engineers boasted three other runner-ups with senior Kat Morin registering two of them. She was second in the 60 with a time of 8.02 and helped the 4x200 relay team finish in 1:49.29, which trailed only Lock Haven's squad (1:48.85). Joining Morin, who also scored in the 200, on the relay was Elizabeth Evans, Christine Mallette and Katie Manning. 

Sophomore Dayna Moyer had a second place finish in the pole vault, tying a competitor from Colgate, which also had the winner.

Rensselaer exhibited additional depth in a variety of other events with multiple top five finishes in the 5000 meters, 800 meters and 60 Hurdles. In fact, RPI had three of the top six finishers in the 60H with Julia Hubbard finishing third, Kendra Patterson in fifth and Willa Spaar in sixth. Hubbard also competed in the triple jump, placing fifth. 

The Engineers compete again next Friday and Saturday when it travels to Boston University for the David Hemery Valentine Invite.
