Ten Compete at Williams Final Qualifier

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Jessey Bruening exceeded her seed distances in two events and Josh Cohen and Evan White did the same in one apiece at the Williams College Final Qualifier, which 10 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes competed. It was a non team scoring meet.

A senior, Bruening concluded her career by reaching 11.36 meters in the shot put on her final throw, which was over her seed distance of 10.58. She also exceeded her hammer throw seed of 37.35 meters with a maximum effort of 38.10 on her third of six attempts. She also competed in the discus and reached 25.60 meters, which trailed only her teammate Morgan Daley, who threw for 35.99 meters.

It was in the men's discus that Cohen, also a senior, exceeded his seed distance as he reached 45.56 meters on his second try. Teammate and classmate Max Toner had a 34.18 in the event, while also reaching 42.55 meters in the hammer. Cohen had a maximum effort of 45.55 in the hammer. 

In the women's hammer, Daley and Laura Davis joined Bruening in the hammer circle and had throws of 47.24 meters and 37.67 meters, respectively. 

White's best throw in the javelin came on his fifth attempt and traveled 56.64 meters, which topped his seed of 55.64.

The Engineers had two high jumpers with Luke Kovalcin going 1.81 meters in the men's and Maya Verma reaching 1.57 meters in the women's.

On the track, graduate student John Reed was first of nine competitors in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:38.49, while Dylan Rosemark ran the 1500 meters in 3:58.67.

A select number of RPI student-athletes are expected to qualify for the NCAA Championship next week in Ohio. The announcement of participants is scheduled for Saturday.
