CANTON, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's track & field team continued its championship run this weekend at the Liberty League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by St. Lawrence, capturing its fourth consecutive league title and the program's 18th overall outdoor Liberty League championship.
RPI's sprinters set the tone immediately, led by a dominant showing in the 100-meter dash as Cam Caso captured first in 10.59 seconds, followed by
Ronen Stewart in second (10.82),
Jack Catelotti in sixth (11.05), and
Francis Grasso in eighth (11.10). The Engineers carried that momentum into the 200, where Caso secured another victory in 21.18 and RPI continued to stack points behind him with Stewart in second (21.59) and
Donovan Myrick in third (21.78).
Jace Lewis added a fifth-place finish (22.23), and Alex Flynn placed seventh (22.28) to round out another strong scoring event for the Engineers.
In the 400, RPI continued its scoring surge as Myrick delivered a runner-up finish in 47.66, with Flynn adding fifth (48.97),
Walter Withrow in sixth (49.32), and
Caden Caron in seventh (49.94). The Engineers added more points in the 800, paced by Dominic Pena in second with a time of 1:53.15, while
Jack Czarnecki contributed a sixth-place finish in 1:55.62.
RPI's depth in the middle distances shined in the 1500, led by Czarnecki's second-place finish in 3:58.06, with
Evan Lacey in third (4:00.50),
Colin Goldschmidt in fifth (4:01.01), and
Danny Gall in sixth (4:01.46) to stack multiple top-six efforts.
The Engineers were equally strong in the distance events, highlighted by a top-two sweep in the 10,000 as
Thomas Manson won in 30:08.20 and
Justin Cascio followed in second (30:42.57). RPI kept the points coming with
Tobin Durham in third (30:48.47),
Gwilym Horner in fourth (30:58.52), and
Joey Smith in seventh (31:23.68). In the 5000, Durham added another podium finish in second (14:38.11), while Lacey placed third (14:38.66),
Jack Loughery took fourth (14:39.10), Manson finished fifth (14:42.63), Goldschmidt added sixth (14:46.39), and Cascio rounded out the scoring in eighth (14:57.28).
RPI also made a major impact in the hurdles, led by
Cortez Garrett, who finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (14.73) and followed with an emphatic conference title in the 400-meter hurdles (53.44).
Chris Kay added another key scoring effort in the 110 hurdles, placing eighth (15.70). In the steeplechase, the Engineers delivered another event win as Nicholas McAuley captured first in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:22.18), with
Michael Harkins taking third (9:28.75) and
Evan Morrow adding sixth (9:44.58).
RPI continued to rack up championship points in the jumps and throws.
Connor Cruz scored with a third-place finish in the high jump (1.91m), and
Moss Dengler claimed another title by winning the pole vault (4.85m). The Engineers were especially strong in the discus, led by
Arthur Hrycak's event win (45.13m), with
Jack Chappa in second (43.70m),
Tristan Mangin in third (43.06m), and
Henry Struble scoring in seventh (40.41m). RPI also added points in the shot put, paced by
Paul Sussman in fourth (13.60m) and
Javier Bedoya in fifth (13.45m).
The Engineers capped the meet with additional scoring in the multi-events, as
Dillen Owusu finished fifth in the decathlon (5593) and Jack Currie placed seventh (5436), providing valuable points in RPI's title-winning total.
