TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team began its season by hosting the Siena College Invitational on Sharp Courts and the Engineers got off to an impressive start as four singles student-athletes and three doubles teams remain alive to win their flights. Action concludes on Saturday beginning at 9am.
RPI, the only Division III school in the 6-school field, has two of the four semifinalists in the A Flight with sophomoreÂ
Aiden Drover-Mattinen andÂ
Andy Zhu remaining. They face foes from Marist College and Siena, respectively.
In the B Flight, seniorÂ
Abraham Yohannes is into the semis after posting wins over opponents from Marist and Siena. He faces a player from Long Island University in the semis.
Freshman Siddharth Srinavasan had his quarterfinals match suspended due to darkness and will pick it up when C Flight play continues. He is taking on a foe from Rider University and the contest is close.
In doubles, Zhu and
Max Safanov have reached the A Flight final and take on a tandem from Siena, while the Engineers have both finalists in the B Flight. Yohannes and Srinavasan will play
Bryce Burnham and
Jonathan McMillan, a pair of sophomores, for the title.
