TROY, N.Y. - The D3football.com Team of the Week has been announced and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete
Nate Sicard is among those listed on the national squad.
A sophomore defensive tackle, Sicard (Taunton, MA / Milton Academy) helped the Engineers hold Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) to seven first downs, -14 rushing yards on 23 attempts and 119 yards passing in a 37-0 Rensselaer victory in the Transit Trophy Game. Individually, he had five tackles, all unassisted, with three sacks totaling 25 lost yards. He also broke up a pass, batting a ball down at the line of scrimmage.
Sicard's three sacks are the most in a game for a member of the Engineers since Anthony Pilla had three in November 2015.
In three games this season, Sicard has nine solo tackles and five assisted stops for 14 total. He has three tackles for lost yards (25), all sacks, with two pass breakups. He has had at least four tackles in each game.
As a freshman, the mechanical engineering major had 55 tackles with 28 unassisted and 9.5 for lost yards (team-high 43). He had four sacks (loss of 24 yards). The had multiple tackles in 10 games with a season-high 10 (5 solos), including five-yard sack, at St. Lawrence University. He was the Liberty League Rookie of the Week once and the team's Defensive Rookie of the Year.
RPI, which is 2-1, is back on the field on Saturday at 4pm against St. John Fisher College in Pittsford, N.Y.
