Liberty League Announces 2025 All-League Teams

TROY, N.Y. — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) football program collected a slate of Liberty League postseason honors today, headlined by seven First Team selections, six Second Team nods, and four Honorable Mention picks after a fall in which the Engineers posted the league's No. 1 scoring offense and a top-tier defense.

Leading the First Team on offense, running back Kayden White capped a breakout season ranked second in the Liberty League in rushing yards and first in rushing touchdowns. He powered the ground game with 891 rushing yards on 5.7 yards per carry and a conference-best 18 rushing TDs. White also owned the league's longest rush of the year, when he powered 80 yards to the end zone against Ithaca.

Tight end Josh Young joined White on the First Team after pacing RPI's passing attack with five receiving touchdowns (tied-5th in league) and 375 yards (11th in LL receptions).

Up front, JT Morello earned First Team acclaim after starting all 10 games and anchoring a line that cleared the way for RPI's league-leading 27 rushing scores.

On defense, defensive lineman Owen Boland was a First Team selection after spearheading the pass rush with 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks, ranking among the league leaders (t-2nd in fumble recoveries; 14th in TFL; 16th in sacks) while also adding a touchdown on a fumble return touchdown.

RPI swept two First Team specialist spots. Kicker Aleks Maric led the conference in both field goals made and field goals per game. Return specialist Gage Swanger topped the conference in return touchdowns and paced the league in punt return average and longest punt return, delivering explosive field position all year.

RPI's Second Team contingent was highlighted by quarterback Anthony DeMatteo, who finished second in the league in passing yards and passing touchdowns after throwing for 1,839 yards and 13 TDs. He was joined by offensive linemen Eamon Centrella and Henry Frayne, who each started all 10 games and helped drive the league's top scoring offense.

On defense, linebacker Miles Lafferty ranked among the league leaders with 72 total tackles (including 8.5 TFL, 3.0 sacks), while the secondary featured defensive backs Cassius Johnson and Aidan Bekkenhuis, who partnered on a back end that finished third in the LL in pass defense. Johnson tied for first in league with three interceptions in addition to posting a conference-leading 29.91 yards per kick return to also earn Honorable Mention accolades as an athlete.

Punter Anderson Burke earned Second Team specialist honors after leading the league in punts inside the 20 (14) and ranking second in 50+ yard punts (4), posting a 40.39 average with a long of 53.

Rounding out the honors, Nicholas Cirulli (OL) was recognized on offense, with T.J. Chadwick (DL) and Matt Krauza (LB) earning defensive Honorable Mention.
