MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis program saw multiple student-athletes compete at the ITA Cup, collegiate tennis' premier fall event. Representing the Engineers was
Tsubi Okada in the Men's Singles field, while
Andy Zhu and
Aiden Drover-Mattinen made the field as a doubles pairing.
Okada squared off with Joshua Bode of Concordia in the opening round of 16. Bode got the best of Okada, as the freshman fell by a 6-3, 6-3 final score.
In the doubles portion of the tournament, Zhu and Drover-Mattinen fell in their opening match to Ethan Green and Kael Shah from Denison. It was a three-game duel, with the final score of the match coming to a 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 score.
As the weekend progressed, the Engineers took to the court in added competition. Friday saw Okada play on the singles side against Mareedu from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College and take a tough loss by a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 final score.
On Saturday, the doubles partners Zhu and Drover-Mattinen would defeat the pairing of Hentschel and Wijemanne from Middlebury College 6-4, 6-2 final score. The pair took down Leese and Charan Shankar from Berry College in a final of 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 in a tightly contested matchup. In singles play on Saturday, Okada swept Gohl from Gustavus Adolphus College in two sets with a 6-3, 6-4 final score.
RPI returns to action after the new year, with their sights on the spring of 2024 competition.
