UTICA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's track and field team had a solid showing at the Utica Holiday Classic on Saturday, as the Engineers finished second of 13 teams. Headlining the day was a record-setting run from sophomore
Donovan Myrick in the 200 meters.
Myrick ran the 200 meters in a time of 22.10, setting a new RPI school record that was previously held by Krishuan Gilmore (1997). Myrick's time is currently 4th in NCAA DIII in the event.
Myrick wasn't done, as he teamed up with Alex Flynn,
Peter Cavanaugh, and
Ronen Stewart to take the top spot in the Men's 4x200 relay in a time of 1:33.42 – a tightly contested race with the top grouping from host Utica.
Also impressing was freshman
Moss Dengler, as he took home a second place finish in the pole vault. He scored a 4.60, which tied first but lost a tiebreak based on misses at the 4.60 jump. Dengler led a pack of four Engineers that finished second through fifth in the event.
Elsewhere,
Thomas Mulvaney came out with a first-place finish in the Men's 60 meter unseeded group, putting up a time of 7.2 seconds – topping second place by .19 seconds. In the seeded portion,
Max Liu tossed up a 7.10 second time for a second place finish.
Cortez Garrett collected a third place finish in the Men's 60 meter Hurdles, putting up an 8.72 second run. In the men's 800 meter,
Domenick Rayleonard and
Rahul Maharjan each had great showings, finishing second and fourth respectively with times of 1:59.49 and 2:01.59. The duo, along with Garrett and
Stephen Fajen collected a second-place finish in the Men's 4x400 with a time of 3:31.75.
RPI returns to action on Saturday, January 13 when the Engineers head to the Brandeis Reggie Poyau Invitational in Waltham, Mass.
