RPI Tops the Field at Trinity Invitational

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's track & field team finished first out of 13 teams at today's Trinity College Invitational.

RPI's sprint group set the tone early in the 100 meters, led by Cameron Caso, who finished second with a time of 10.90 seconds, while Gabriel Sicurella added another scoring effort by placing eighth in 11.33. Caso continued his standout day in the 200, capturing the event title in 21.39 and spearheading a deep RPI showing in the one-lap sprint. Donovan Myrick followed with a third-place finish in 21.68, Ronen Stewart added fifth in 21.81, and Jace Lewis rounded out another top-eight performance with an eighth-place time of 22.09. The Engineers also scored in the 400, where Walter Withrow finished eighth in 50.16.

RPI delivered one of its top highlights in the 800 meters as Dominic Pena won the race in 1:53.24, with the Engineers adding two more top-eight finishes behind the victory. Danny Gall placed sixth in 1:55.37, and Tevin McLaren followed in eighth at 1:56.62. RPI continued to build points in the 1500, where Nathaniel McKee clocked 3:57.17 to take seventh, and Joe Nuzzo finished eighth in 3:58.25. The distance group then delivered another first-place result in the 5000 meters, as Evan Lacey captured the win in 15:08.73.

The Engineers were equally productive in the hurdles, paced by Cortez Garrett, who earned a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (15.43) before coming back with a runner-up result in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.08. RPI also found success in the relay lanes, winning the 4x100-meter relay in 41.44 as Caso, Myrick, Alexander Flynn, and Stewart combined for the top spot.

Paul Sussman finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 13.55 meters, while Javier Bedoya followed close behind in sixth at 13.51 meters. The Engineers also added points in the discus, where Tristan Mangin placed seventh with a mark of 42.64 meters. Mangin then delivered one of the top performances of the meet for RPI by winning the javelin with a throw of 60.78 meters, while Ryan Stuck added a top-eight effort in eighth at 47.58 meters. Dillen Owusu scored with a fifth-place clearance of 4.15 meters in the pole vault and Ervin Owusu posted a second-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.30 meters.

RPI also porduced a trio of top-eight performances in the triple jump, led by Oliver Herrick in fifth with a mark of 13.01 meters, followed by Caius Leung in seventh at 11.83 meters and Jack Notaro in eighthwith 11.77 meters.

The Engineers also stacked the top of the hammer throw, led by Max Fetah in second at 48.62 meters, while Colby Grove placed third (48.59m) and Eric Mulqueen finished fourth (48.08m). Sussman capped a strong throwing day with another scoring performance, placing fifth in the hammer at 47.70 meters.
