ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) had the top five finishers and eight of the first nine in the 5000 meters and the Engineers had a win in the distance medley relay to lead the Liberty League Championship Meet hosted by RIT at the Gordon Field House. RPI has 80 points, which is .5 in front of the University of Rochester with Ithaca College in third (51). Eight schools are competing.
RPI controlled the action on the track highlighted by the 5000 meter run, which was won by graduate student
Connor Wooding in a time of 15:00.56.
Mitchell Dailey was the runner-up in 15:01.89 with
Vincent Simonetti rounding out the top three (15:03.31). In total, the Engineers earned 36 points in the event - more than five teams scored in the seven events on the first day.

In the DMR,
Dylan Rosemark,
Liam Pek,
Andre Latina, and
Jack Loughery raced to a 10:27.51, which was two seconds ahead of the second place team, which came from Rochester (10:29.65).
Earlier in the day, Rensselaer earned 20 points in the mile with
Matt Lecky placing second (4:15.18) and
Cory Kennedy (4:17.02),
Jason Gibbons (4:17.11), and
Davis Piercy (4:17.27) crossing in fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively. Patrick Cavanaugh added a fifth place finish in the 400 meter dash (50.95).
Junior
James Zeolla earned third in the pole vault with a maximum effort of 4.76 meters and classmate
Shawn Putman was sixth in the long jump at 6.54 meters.
Action concudes on Saturday with the first event of the day beginning at 11am.
