MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Sophomore
Sid Srinivasan won his first round singles match and three Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) doubles teams were also victorious before bowing out of the Middlebury College Invitational. The action is the first of the 2023-24 season for the Engineers.
Srinivasan advanced to the second round of the D Flight Singles by defeating Harrison Gradin of Skidmore 6-3, 6-4. His second round opponent and when they will play has yet to be determined.
RPI's doubles teams of
Max Safanov and
Tsubi Okada in the A Flight and
Bryce Burnham and
Joel McCandless in the B Flight both beat squads from the Thoroughbreds. Safanov and Okada won 8-6, while Burnham and McCandless triumphed 8-1. Also victorious in the B Flight was the tandem of
Tasmay Shah and
Jonathan McMillan, who won against a pair from Brandeis. All three of the Engineers doubles teams lost in the second round.
Shah, Burnham and
Aiden Drover-Mattinen each dropped their singles matches in three sets by scores of 2-6, 6-4, 10-3; 6-2, 2-6, 10-6; and 6-4, 5-7, 10-3, respectively.Â
