ROME, Georgia- Aiden Drover-Mattinen of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team reached the semifinal round of the 2024 ITA Cup at host Berry College.
Playing in the 16-person East Region bracket, Drover-Mattinen started the week with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Marco Siviero of Gustavus Apolphus College.
Drover-Mattinen would then register a 7-5, 6-3 win over Emory College's Efe Comu to reach the final four. He then battled eventual East Champion Advik Mareedu (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College) for three sets in the semifinals, including a marathon second stanza that required a tiebreaker.
After Mareedu claimed the first set 7-5, Drover-Mattinen responded with a 7-6 (7-5) win in the second, setting up a third set that saw Mareedu come out on top 6-4 to advance to the finals.
Drover-Mattinen also competed in the doubles competition alongside Andy Zhu. The pair exited in the round of 16 following a three-set fight with a duo from Denison University.
