GREENSBORO, NC- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) golf team combined to shoot a 25-over-par 309 today in chilly weather at The Cardinal by Pete Dye. The Engineers are currently placed ninth out of 21 teams, and sit ahead of five top-40 ranked schools.
Co-Captain
Jacob Lindsay shot three-over par 74 to lead the scoring for the Engineers. With the team starting on Hole 10, Lindsay birdied holes 14, 1, 5, and 8 to finish land him in 16th after round one.
Co-Captain
Matt Buckley was second for the Engineers with a six-over par 77 on the tricky layout. He had birdies on holes 10 and 4 but was sidetracked by three consecutive bogeys on his front nine.
Anthony Chen and
Owen Himmer finished the scoring for RPI with matching scores of eight-over par 79.
Junior
Ryan Komp finished with a sixteen-over par 87.
Coach
Matt McGarvey commented on the team and individual efforts: "The Cardinal in an extremely challenging layout with many uphill approaches to well-protected greens. Â The course is in excellent condition. Â Jacob was solid all day today and as a team, we are in position for a solid finish."
The Engineers will wrap up their fall season with the final round of the tournament beginning tomorrow morning.
