AMHERST, Mass.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's track & field team traveled east today for the Amherst Spring Fling.
Josh Ihegihu,
Tristan Mangin, and
Mitchell Dailey registered individual victories for the Engineers on the afternoon. Ihegihu won the 100-meter dash in 10.78 seconds, Mangin took first place in the javelin with a distance of 52.65 meters, and Dailey outlasted the field in the 5000-meters with a time of 14:26.97.
Ihegihu added a fifth place results in the 200m (22.17 seconds) and Mangin followed up his win with a fourth place finish in the discus (42.66 meters).
Alexander Flynn took fourth in the 400m (50.13 seconds),
Cortez Garrett cross eighth in the 100m hurdles (15.30 seconds), and Dominic Pena cross ninth in the 800m (1:55.78).
A trio of Engineers scored points in the 1500m, with
Evan Lacey (3:55.87),
Jack Loughery (3:56.18), and
Jack Czarnecki (3:57.24) respectively logging third, fourth, and sixth.
RPI had seven runners place in the top-nine of the 5000m, led by Dailey's winning effort in the event.
Vincent Simonetti finished second,
Brady Geisler earned fourth,
Jonathan Craun claimed fifth,
Gwilym Horner took seventh,
Caleb Watson crossed eighth, and
Justin Cascio was ninth.
Michael Harkins (10:01.84) was fifth and
Alton Francisco (10:13.61) was seventh in the steeplechase.
Joey Hinckley and
Moss Dengler both cleared the 4.30-meter bar to take second and third in the pole vault.
Owen Haas (13.25m) and
Ngawang Ghongwatsang (12.33m) were fifth and ninth, respectively, in the triple jump, while
Robert Smith (6.36m) finished sixth in the high jump.
The RPI grouping of Garrett,
Drew Kerr,
Rahul Maharjan, and
Domenick Rayleonard won the 4x400 relay in 3:22.76. The quartet of Ihegihu, Flynn,
Max Liu, and
Donovan Myrick teamed to take third in the 4x100 with a mark of 41.64.
The Engineers head home to host the RPI Friday Night Under the Lights Meet, with the fun beginning Friday afternoon at Harkness Field.
