GREENSBORO, N.C. — Facing one of the most competitive fields in all of NCAA Division III, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's golf team wrapped up its fall season with a 19th-place team finish at The O'Briant-Jensen Memorial, hosted at The Cardinal by Pete Dye in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Originally scheduled as a two-round event, the tournament was shortened to a single round after inclement weather forced the cancellation of Tuesday's final 18 holes.
RPI posted a team total of +49 (325), with 12 of the competing programs ranked among the nation's top 50. Top-ranked Huntingdon College claimed the team title with a collective score of +11 (285), while Methodist and Lynchburg rounded out the top three.
Individually,
Anthony Chen led the Engineers with a round of 77 (+6), which included steady front and back nine efforts of 40 and 37, respectively.
Ryan Komp and
Robert Chuang each recorded two birdies to card rounds of 84 (+13), with both starting strong on the front nine with 39 and 40, respectively.
Sujaan Singh and
Zydon Yuan rounded out the scoring with matching scores of 88 (+17), as all five RPI golfers gained experience on the challenging 6,866-yard, par-71 layout. The Engineers found the most success of the long par-5 10th, where RPI finish -3 as a team on the 470-yard hole.
