ALBANY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's golf team secured a fifth-place finish out of 14 programs in a highly competitive field at the inaugural RPI Collegiate Invitational at Shaker Ridge Country Club.
RPI was led by an impressive individual performance from
Zydon Yuan, who tied for fifth overall at five-over-par. Yuan delivered two strong rounds to pace the Engineers, first carding a three-over 75 in Sunday's opening round before bouncing back with a team-best even-par 72, including an eagle on the par-five 13th hole, to seal a place in the top five after Monday.
Also contributing for the Engineers was
Sujaan Singh, who opened with a one-under-par performance in round one, highlighted by three birdies on the back nine, before running into some difficulty in the back half of Monday's second round to finish 17th overall.
Robert Chuang was next for RPI, tying for 30th at +13 after posting rounds of 72 and 83. His opening round was steady and included three birdies on a strong second nine.
Ryan Komp matched Chuang's consistency, also carding a 72 on Saturday before a second-round 83 to finish tied for 39th at +15.
Anthony Chen rounded out RPI's scoring five with a +17 finish, tying for 43rd. He recorded a 79 on day one and followed it with an 80 in the final round.
A second Engineers squad also competed in the tournament, with Patrick Kiernan lead the group with a +18 total over two rounds, featuring a much-improved second-day 78. Matt Harchulla finished at +20, while
Kam Duenwald (+27),
Nick Ventura (+30), and
Andrew Peterson (+33) completed the lineup.
RPI will next enter the Skidmore Fall Invitational taking place this Saturday and Sunday in Saratoga Springs.
