GREENSBORO, NC - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) swimming & diving team competed over the course of four days at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Three different Engineers competed in five individual events in addition to the four RPI relay teams that were entered.
Day one of the championship saw
Mike Dowd and
Nicholas Stefanidis place 19th place and 38th, respectively, in the men's 50-yard freestyle. Dowd finished in 20.26 seconds while Stefanidis touched in 20.80 seconds. The women's 400 medley relay team of
Vera Korff,
Colleen Whittaker,
Elizabeth Rose, and
Shannon Brown also hit the water in the opening morning, with the quartet finishing 24th in 3:53.52.
Dowd placed 33rd in day two's 200 freestyle with a time of 3:53.52. Korff,
Sierra Pargett, Whittaker, and Brown also took 18th in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:34.54 in the second day of competition.
Brown, Whittaker, Rose, and Pargett worked together to finish 24th (1:46.62) in the 200 medley relay on Thursday. Stefanidis was also back in the water to place 18th in the 100 breaststroke (54.81 seconds) in day three.
Dowd and Stefanidis closed their championships with the 100 freestyle this morning. Dowd claimed 23rd place in 44.94 seconds while Stefanidis was 52nd with a mark of 46.32 seconds.
Brown swam in the women's 100 freestyle as well in day four, where she recorded a 42nd place finish in 51.75 seconds. Additionally, Brown was the anchor leg in RPI's 400 freestyle relay team that earned 15th overall. Brown, Pargett, Whittaker, and Rose worked together to finish in 3:26.91.
