BLOOMFIELD, Conn.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) golf team capitalized on better weather and earlier starting times to move up three spots and finished tied for 3rd out of 16 teams at the Trinity/Hartford Invitational. With a team score of 293 on Sunday, the Engineers shot the best single-day team score of the weekend.
Leading the way for the Engineers starting on hole ten was Co-Captain
Jacob Lindsay, who ran a birdie streak on the four of the first five holes (10, 12,13 and 14) and offsetting a bogey on hole 16 with another birdie on 17 on his way to the turn at four under. Lindsay gave up a stroke, bogeying holes 6 and 7 with a birdie on 8 to finish three under par 69. Jacob finished tied for third overall, just three shots behind the overall winner.
Senior
Rodrigo Muelas made the turn at even par, offsetting a birdie on 14 with a bogey on 16. He played a steady back nine, highlighted by draining a six-foot birdie putt on #8 good for a T14 finish.
Grad student
Owen Himmer closed with a 75 earning a tie for 27th. With two birdies on the front (15 and 18), he then fired an even par back side with birdies on holes 5 and 6.
Grad student and Co-Captain
Matt Buckley overcame a +4 start by playing the second nine one-over to finish with 77. Freshman
Nick Ventura shot seven-over 79 to round out the scoring.
The Engineers are back in action next weekend, April 12-13 at the Skidmore Tim Brown Invitational at Ballston Spa CC in Ballston Spa, NY
