Aiden Drover-Mattinen and junior
Andy Zhu of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team wrapped up their 2024-2025 season with appearances in both singles and doubles at the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships, held at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California.
Drover-Mattinen advanced to the quarterfinal round of the singles championship for the third consecutive year, capping off an illustrious collegiate career as one of the most accomplished players in program history. Competing as the No. 2 seed, he opened the tournament with a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Warren Pham of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, then followed it with a comeback win against Emory's Ruilin Feng, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the second round. His run came to an end in a hard-fought battle against Tufts' Javier Gonzalez, who prevailed 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
In doubles, Drover-Mattinen and Zhu were selected for the national field for the second straight season after reaching the semifinals in 2024. This year, the pair fell in a tightly contested first-round match to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Caleb Settles and Brandon Vu, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
Drover-Mattinen concludes his RPI career as a four-time NCAA singles qualifier and two-time All-American, finishing the 2025 season with a 31-2 singles record. He helped the Engineers to five NCAA team tournament appearances during his tenure, while setting a new program standard for national-level performance.
