Buckley Selected as GCAA Ping All-American

TROY, N.Y. – Graduate student Matt Buckley of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) golf team has been named a 2025 PING Honorable Mention All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), marking the second consecutive year he has received national All-America recognition.

A five-year standout for the Engineers, Buckley concludes his RPI career as one of the most decorated golfers in program history. In addition to his PING All-America honors, he is a five-time All-Liberty League selection, including four First Team recognitions, and has earned GCAA All-Region status in each of his final four seasons.

This season, Buckley led the team in scoring average at 73.24 over 19 rounds and posted seven top-15 finishes in 10 events, including runner-up results at The Gauntlet and the Glen Oaks Invitational. He recorded six rounds in the 60s, including a school-record pair of sub-70 rounds at The Gauntlet, becoming the first RPI player ever to shoot both tournament rounds in the 60s. He also carded seven rounds at par or better, led the team in scoring in 10 individual rounds and four events, and helped guide the Engineers to a third-place Liberty League finish.

Academically, Buckley graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in mechanical and aeronautical engineering and will earn a master's degree in mechanical engineering (thermal hydraulics concentration) later this spring, holding a 3.76 GPA. He is a four-time Liberty League All-Academic selection, a GCAA All-America Scholar, and a three-time CSC Academic All-District honoree. In 2025, he was named one of five national finalists for the prestigious Byron Nelson Award, presented annually to a graduating senior who demonstrates excellence on the course, in the classroom, and in the community.
