WESTBURY, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's golf team opened its 2025 fall campaign with a strong team performance at the George Cangero Invitational hosted by Farmingdale State College. All five Engineers in the lineup posted competitive rounds, including a red-hot start from freshman
Zydon Yuan, to help RPI place fifth overall in the team standings at the rain-shortened event.
Yuan carded a 2-under-par on the back nine to finish even-par 72, delivering the low round of the day for the Engineers. He played the par-5s in 1-under and was particularly sharp on the greens, avoiding any scores worse than bogey throughout the round to finish tied for fifth out 61 participants.
Ryan Komp and Anthony Chen both added rounds of 77 (+5). Komp was consistent from tee to green and closed with only three bogeys showing on his card.Chen recovered well from some early struggles by playing the back nine holes at one-under.
Sujaan Singh and Robert Chuang rounded out the scoring with matching 76s (+4). Singh posted a steady round highlighted by four birdies, while Chuang birdied five holes. Additionally, Pat Kiernan scored a 78 competing as an individual.
The Engineers will take this weekend off before teeing off at the Williams College Invitational on September 20-21.
