BOSTON, MA – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's track & field team produced a well-rounded performance today at the Middlebury New England Small College Invitationa at the TRACK at New Balance l, highlighted by a first-place finish in the shot put and several podium finishes across track and field events.
Leanna Wells claimed top honors in the shot put, recording a winning mark of 12.57 meters to lead a strong contingent of Engineers in the throws.
Katie Lynch placed sixth with a throw of 11.42 meters, and later added a fourth-place finish in the weight throw at 14.30 meters.
The 3000 meters saw an impressive display of depth from RPI, as five Engineers placed in the top seven.
Ava Handel led the way with a third-place time of 10:33.26, closely followed by
Claudia Wolf (4th, 10:34.81),
Tessa Bossom (5th, 10:36.99),
Gianna Coryea (6th, 10:37.33), and
Olivia Reid (7th, 10:43.07). Additionally,
Francesca Mavricos earned eighth place in the 5000 meters, crossing in 19:05.22.
In the 800 meters,
Laura Hoag crossed the line in 2:20.10 to take sixth place, while also contributing to RPI's 4x400 meter relay, which placed sixth with a time of 4:07.62. She teamed up with
Alyssa Fici,
Ava Marcucci, and
Lauren Szalkowski in the relay event.
Alice Brambati continued her versatile campaign by finishing fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.20 seconds) and placing second in the long jump with a leap of 5.22 meters. Brambati added a third-place finish in the triple jump, reaching 10.86 meters to cap a three-event day.
Emma McGuinn was just behind Brambati in the hurdles, placing fifth with a time of 9.23 seconds.
Ainsley Rausch earned second place in the pole vault, clearing 3.00 meters, while
Isabelle Sullivan tied for eighth at 2.25 meters.
The Engineers next compete at the Utica Blue and Orange Invite on Saturday afternoon in the Hutton Sports Dome.
