WALTHAM, Mass. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team competed on the road at Brandeis, where the host Judges earned a 6-1 team victory.
RPI opened the match with a highlight in doubles competition at the top position. The pairing of
Tasmay Shah and
Tsubasa Okada delivered a strong performance, earning a 6-3 victory over their Brandeis' top duo to give the Engineers an early point.
At No. 2 doubles,
Gustave Viennet and
Quoc-Uy Vo battled in a close contest before falling by a narrow 7-5 score, while
Felix Puyplat and
Aiden Atri competed at the third position.
In singles play, RPI continued to compete across the lineup against a strong Brandeis squad. At the No. 1 position, Shah fought through a competitive opening set that was decided in a tiebreak before ultimately falling 7-6, 6-4. Okada delivered a strong start at No. 2 singles, claiming the first set 6-3 before his opponent rallied to take the next two sets.
Viennet delivered one of the most competitive matches of the day at the fourth position, winning the opening set 6-3 before dropping a hard-fought three-set decision. Puyplat also battled at No. 5 singles, taking the first set 6-4 before the match was decided in a third-set tiebreak.
RPI's lone singles victory came at the sixth position, where
Debarshi Sen earned a hard-fought win over Yasee Houwari. After winning the opening set 6-2, Sen dropped the second set before responding with a strong performance in the tiebreak to secure the victory.
The Engineers return to Liberty League action on Saturday with a 3:30 pm meeting at RIT.
