Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team generated an early four-goal surge and battled to the final horn in a neutral-site matchup against St. Lawrence at MIT on Saturday, but the Saints used a decisive middle stretch to earn a 13-10 Liberty League victory at Jack Barry Field.
RPI had five players score goals, led by Abigail Couzens with a team-high three goals and four points (three goals, one assist). Beckett Houston added two goals, including a pair late in the fourth quarter, while Camille Stackhouse and Emily Speck each scored twice and Quinn Wollard also found the back of the net. Speck finished with three points (two goals, one assist), and RPI received assists from Ava Gilardone, Wollard, Couzens, Speck, Kacey Pritts, and Adelaide Hughes. In goal, Halley Feaga played the full 60 minutes and made eight saves.
The Engineers came out sharp and struck first with three man-up goals in a span of the three minutes. After St. Lawrence opened the scoring at 11:32, Speck responded on the advantage off a Hughes assist at 7:56, then buried another man-up free-position finish at 7:12. Stackhouse followed with a man-up free-position goal at 5:05, and Couzens capped the first-quarter run at 1:55 off a Speck feed to give RPI a 4-1 lead after one.
St. Lawrence flipped the game in the second, outscoring RPI 6-2 to take a 7-6 halftime edge. The Saints opened the quarter with four straight goals, three coming on extra-player opportunities, to move in front, 5-4. Couzens briefly steadied the Engineers with a free-position goal at 9:09, and Wollard put RPI back in front at 7:57 off a Couzens assist, but St. Lawrence answered with two late tallies, including the go-ahead goal at 1:46, to carry momentum into the break.
The Saints created separation in the third quarter, scoring four unanswered to extend the advantage to 11-6 heading into the fourth. Feaga kept RPI within striking distance with several key saves, but St. Lawrence controlled possessions in the middle frame.
RPI continued to fight and produced a late push in the final 15 minutes. Stackhouse opened the fourth-quarter scoring at 14:47 off a Gilardone assist, and Couzens converted at 9:03 off a Wollard feed to cut the deficit to 12-8. After St. Lawrence answered again at 7:16, Houston sparked the comeback with a man-up goal at 1:43 off a Pritts assist, then fired in an unassisted goal with six seconds left to close out the scoring.
