Box Score ORLANDO, Fla. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team narrowly fell to Division II Ave Maria by a 4-3 score this evening in a tightly contested matchup. The Engineers secured three singles victories on the day, highlighted by strong performances at the top of the lineup.
RPI opened the match in doubles competition, where the Engineers earned a decisive victory at the third position. The tandem of
Aiden Atri and
Felix Puyplat delivered an impressive 6-0 win over Julien Mourad and Gianmarco Punzo, giving RPI an early point.
Tsubasa Okada and
Tasmay Shah battled Andreu Solvia and Danil Mishchanin but ultimately dropped a 6-4 decision at the top doubles lines, while
Quoc-Uy Vo and
Gustave Viennet also fell 6-4 at No. 2 doubles against Joao Felipe Almeida and Pedro Garcia.
Engineers produced several standout efforts in singles play to keep the match close. Shah earned a straight-set victory over Almeida in #1 singles, taking the opening set 6-2 before prevailing in a tight second-set tiebreak, 7-6.
Okada followed with another strong showing at No. 2 singles, defeating Punzo 6-3, 6-1 to secure a second point for RPI. Viennet continued the Engineers' momentum at the third position, earning a convincing 6-3, 6-2 win over Mishchanin to round out RPI's singles victories.
The Engineers continue their Florida trip with contests against Christopher Newport and Mary Washington.
