TROY, N.Y. – St. Lawrence University scored three goals in the second half of action for a come-from-behind victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Liberty League field hockey action on Saturday. The 17th-ranked Saints improved to 11-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while the Engineers drop to 4-12 on the season with a 1-5 Liberty League mark.

Holding a 2-1 lead after the first 35 minutes of play, Rensselaer saw its advantage slip away mid-way through the second half as Saints forward Taylor Vogt (Rochester, NY/Brighton) scored in the 60th minute to even things up at 2-2.

St. Lawrence answered just over five minutes later as midfielder Courtney Cartier (Hudson Falls, NY/Hudson Falls), who assisted on the Saints tying goal, pushed the visitors ahead with eventual game-winner in the 66th minute off an assist from senior Joss-Elyse Smith (Chestertown, NY/North Warren).

Senior defender Jennifer Stetson (Bristol, VT/Mt. Abraham) added the insurance goal less than three minutes later for the 4-2 final decision.

Rensselaer struck first in the game as junior forward Sandy Turnbull (Upperville, VA/Chatham Hall) banged in an unassisted tally in the 20th minute to give the Engineers the 1-0 advantage. Turnbull struck again in the 27th minute after she converted a pass from senior Margaret Chowaniec (Burlington, CT/Lewis Mills) to make it a two-score lead.

St. Lawrence pulled to within one (2-1) less than 20 seconds later as Smith scored unassisted in front.

Senior goalie Emilie Lannamann (Durham, NH/Proctor Academy) finished with five saves for the Saints, while sophomore netminder Sarah Burcher (Lanexa, VA/Maggie L. Walker Governor's School) made four stops for Rensselaer.

The Engineers held a 17-14 advantage in shots, while the Saints led 13-11 in penalty corners.

Rensselaer wraps up its Liberty League schedule on Sunday against Hamilton (1pm) at Harkness Field. St. Lawrence heads to Poughkeepsie tomorrow to take on Vassar in its conference finale (1pm).
