WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Keystone College hit a pair of home runs and came back from a 4-1 deficit after four innings of play to edge Rensselaer, 11-9, on Monday. With the win the Giants improve to 5-1 on the season, while the Red Hawks move to 1-2.
For RPI, junior
Ryan Washburn (Gansevoort, NY/Schuylerville) was tagged with the loss giving up three runs in 2.0 innings of relief. Starter
Andy Opperman (Oneida, NY / Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) allowed just two earned run over 4 2/3 innings, while striking out three.
Offensively, the Red Hawks were led by senior outfielder
Sean Wilkes (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) who went 4 for 6, with a double and two runs batted in. Sophomore third baseman
Mike Cieszko (Stevenson Ranch, CA/William S. Hart), who was 2 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs, hit his first collegiate homerun - a solo shot - in the top of the ninth.
Rensselaer is back in action Tuesday night, when it faces St Joseph's (NY) at 6:30pm.
