WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Junior righthander Andrew Mondo pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team to a 10-2 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology at Chain O Lakes Park. RPI improves to 2-4, while Wentworth falls to 5-1.

Mondo (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) improved his personal season record to 1-1 after he allowed just one earned run on 12 hits – all singles – with two walks. Matt Dannenhoffer (Bethany, CT/Notre Dame), also a junior righthander, took the loss for the Leopards as he allowed seven runs, six earned, with four strikeouts and five walks in 5.2 innings.

Rensselaer jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a leadoff walk by senior Sean Wilkes (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) and a home run to right centerfield by the second batter, junior catcher Patrick Reardon (Troy, NY/LaSalle Institute). Freshman Art Levenson (San Diego, CA/University City) plated a third run in the second inning with a single to left centerfield, his first of three hits on the day.

Wentworth pulled to within one run, 3-2, in the fourth inning with the help of three singles and an RPI error but the Red Hawks answered right back with two runs in the top of the fifth. They scored two more the next inning for a 7-2 advantage. Junior first baseman Andrew Krushelnyski (Bloomfield Hills, MI/Brother Rice) had singles in both innings while also chipping in with a run scored and an RBI.

The Red Hawks notched their final runs of the game in the top of the ninth inning, highlighted by a run-scoring double by Reardon.

Five Rensselaer players had multiple hits, including Krushelnyski (3 for 6, 1 run, 1 RBI), Levenson (3 for 5, 1 run, 1 RBI) and Reardon (2 for 6, 2 runs, 3 RBI). Four Wentworth players had two hits, led by senior centerfielder Mike Roberts (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford), who also had a run scored.

RPI is back in action on Friday at 11am against Salve Regina. Wentworth also returns to the field on Friday. The Leopards face Bowdoin in a pair of seven-inning games beginning at 2:30pm.
