Baseball Defeats Salve Regina 16-5 Behind 19-Hit Attack

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Junior Camden Mamigonian went 4 for 5 with three runs and five runs batted in to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team to a 16-5 win over Salve Regina. The Red Hawks won their second straight game to improve to 3-4, while the Seahawks fall to 1-9, including nine straight losses.

With RPI leading 2-1, Mamigonian (Dover, NH/Dover) opened up the lead with a long three-run home run to left-centerfield in the fourth inning. Rensselaer scored three more in the fifth inning on a three-run home run to rightfield by junior Patrick Reardon (Troy, NY/LaSalle Institute) for a 6-1 advantage. The Red Hawks took command with a five-run seventh inning.

Reardon finished with two hits, three runs and three RBI and senior centerfielder Sean Wilkes (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) collected three hits with a run. Sophomore Thomas Jebb (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) went 2 for 5 with a run scored and three RBI.

Senior Andy Opperman (Oneida, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) earned the win on the mound, striking out nine while allowing three earned runs in 5.1 innings of work.
