WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Junior lefthander Matt Tone allowed three hits and one run over six innings as Cortland, ranked 15th nationally by D3baseball.com, defeated RPI, 9-3. The Red Dragons improve to 2-3 while Rensselaer falls to 1-1.

Tone (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) struck out three batters and walked two. Michael Mahay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) pitched two innings and Matthew Martin (Hamilton, NY/Hamilton) threw one inning, each allowing a run.

Junior Andrew Mondo (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) took the loss, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in five innings. The Red Hawks, who gave up five unearned runs on five errors, were led offensively by senior outfielder Mike Giacoia, who went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Also contributing were sophomore outfielder Nic Marchese (Tampa, FL/Chamberlain), who was 2 for 4 with a run scored, and junior first baseman Andrew Krushelnyski (Bloomfield Hills, MI/Brother Rice), who was also 2 for 4.

Junior infielder Steve Nickel (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) went 2 for 2 with a walk, two stolen bases and three RBI and Kevin Jackson (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham), an outfielder, was 2 for 4 with a walk and two RBI for Cortland in the win.
