OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Junior Andrew Krushelnyski went 5 for 5 with three runs scored and 20 putouts to lead the Rensselaer baseball team to a 10-2 win at Old Westbury in the first game of a split doubleheader for the Red Hawks.  RPI, ranked 17th in the nation, improves to 26-8, while the Panthers fall to 24-11.

RPI scored five runs in the first three innings, including a three-run second inning, for a 5-0 lead.  The big blow of the first inning was a home run by junior Patrick Reardon (Troy, NY/LaSalle Institute), while the second inning featured a two-run single by sophomore Mike Cieszko (Stevenson Ranch, CA/William S. Hart).  Krushelnyski (Bloomfield Hills, MI/Brother Rice) scored in the third, his second run of the afternoon.

Old Westbury got a run back in the fourth inning but RPI answered with a five-run fifth inning for a 10-1 margin.  The Red Hawks knocked out four hits and were helped by two errors for the nine-run bulge.  The Panthers made it a 10-2 disadvantage in their half of the inning but could get no closer.

In addition to Krushelnyski, who had four singles and a double, Jim Devine (Castleton, NY/Columbia) and Sean Wilkes (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) had multiple points.  Devine also scored twice, while Wilkes chipped in with a run and an RBI.  Cieszko added a pair of runs and RBI.

Senior Andy Opperman (Oneida, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) earned the win, allowing just four hits and two earned runs in 5.0 innings.  Freshman Dan Duval (Middletown, MA/Masconomet) pitched four innings of hitless relief for RPI.

Four different players had single hits for Old Westbury, which used six different pitchers in the contest.  The Panthers saw their winning streak snapped at 11.
