WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Senior Andrew Novick allowed just one earned run on four hits in 5.0 innings and three relievers combined to allow one hit in the final 4.0 innings to lead the #17 Rensselaer baseball team to a 5-3 victory over Williams in a non-league affair.  RPI improves to 28-8, while the Ephs fall to 21-9.

All nine of RPI's starters entered the game hitting over .320 on the season, and most of them boasted averages over .350. The Red Hawks' potent offense threatened to score early on Eph freshman starter Eddie Nadel in the first inning, but a diving stop by senior first baseman Zack Stone with two outs and a runner on third kept it a scoreless ballgame.

RPI would not be denied in the top of the second inning however, as they tagged Nadel for four runs on four hits, including an RBI double by senior Jim Devine and RBI singles by juniors Scott Robinson and Patrick Reardon. A strikeout-caught-stealing double play ended the inning and got Nadel out of further trouble.

Nadel came after a scoreless third and rookie reliever Harry Marino entered to pitch the next three innings. He worked effectively, allowing just three hits and one run on Robinson's inside-the-park home run to center field in the sixth.

The Ephmen could not get their offense going . Williams got on the scoreboard in the fourth after junior Al Matthews's single was misplayed by the center fielder, allowing him to reach third. Freshman Cameron Susk batted him in on a ground ball. The Ephs scored again in the fifth when Stone led-off with a double and was driven in from third with two outs by freshman Stephen Maier's triple to left center.

The Ephs trailed 5-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth, RPI junior pitcher Ryan Washburn entered in relief and walked the bases loaded. Rookie Dan Duval came in with one out to try and prevent the Ephs from scoring, but after getting an out, he walked freshman pinch hitter James Allison to give Williams its third run. But Duval induced the final out to escape further damage, and RPI maintained its 5-3 lead for the rest of the game.
