Farmingdale Tops #15 Baseball in New York Regional Final

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Senior pitcher Tom Heeman scattered eight hits over nine innings to lead the Farmingdale State baseball team to an, 8-0, victory over Rensselaer in the New York Regional Championship game, at the Farmingdale Baseball Complex. With the win the Rams improve to 30-15 and advance to the College World Series. The Red Hawks conclude their season with a 37-13 record.

Heeman (Valley Stream, NY/Hewlett) struck out seven batters, including the final batter of the game. He earned NCAA Regional MVP after winning two of the Rams four games in the tournament.

Farmingdale opened the scoring in the second tallying three times on three hits and an error. Rich Gili (Manorville, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) came through with a two-run single with two outs in the inning.

The Rams scored two in the fifth and two in the sixth to make it a 7-0 game. Gili had another run-scoring hit and Frank Yera (Manhattan, NY/Grand Street Campus) drove in another with a triple to right. Steve King (Freeport, NY/Freeport) drove in the final run of the game with a base-hit up the middle in the eighth.

RPI reliever Dan Duval (Middleton, MA/Masconomet) pitched well out the bullpen, relieving starter Andrew Mondo (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa). Duval surrendered one run on three hits over 3.0 innings.

Josh Brooks (Lake Katrine, NY/Kingston) and Patrick Reardon (Troy, NY/LaSalle Institute) had two hits apiece for the Red Hawks. Gili finished 3 for 4 with a run scored and three RBI. Yera went 2 for 5 and Mike Labrozzi (Sag Harbor, NY/Pierson) ended up 2 for 4.

The Red Hawks set a number of records this season, including team wins (37). Jim Devine (Castleton, NY/Columbia) and Nic Marchese (Tampa, FL/Chamberlain) earned All-Tournament Team Honors.
