TROY, N.Y. – Senior centerfielder
Sean Wilkes tied the school record for hits in game one (230), before breaking it with three hits in game two as the 17th-ranked Rensselaer baseball team swept a doubleheader with Skidmore, at Robison Field. The Red Hawks, which won by scores of 6-1 and 18-3, improve to 31-9 overall (20-3 Liberty League). The Thoroughbreds fall to 21-19 (12-12 Liberty).
Wilkes (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) drove a double to leftfield to lead off the fourth inning of game two for his 231st hit in an RPI uniform. He later added a bunt single and a base-hit to left for a 3 for 6 night cap. The career hits mark was previously held by John Venditte ('00).
Skidmore scored a run in the first inning of each game, but did not hold a lead for long in either contest. Game one saw the Red Hawks score single runs in the second and third to take a 2-1 lead, before junior
Tom Jebb (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) came through with a two-out, two-run single in the fourth for a 4-1 advantage.
Rensselaer added tallies in the fifth and sixth to bring the game to its final score. Junior righthander
John Dreimiller (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) earned the complete-game victory surrendering just one run on three hits over 7.0 innings. He struck out six, while walking two. Seven different Red Hawks reached base via the base-hit in game one, including Wilkes' record tying infield-single in the third.
In game two, RPI answered a first inning run from the Thoroughbreds with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Hits from juniors

Jim Devine (Castleton, NY/Columbia) drove in the second with a sacrifice fly.
The Red Hawks made it a 6-1 game in the third, scoring four times on four hits. Jebb capped off the scoring with a two-run double to right. After the Thoroughbreds came back with an unearned run in the top of the fifth RPI blew the game open in the bottom half of the frame, scoring six times for a 14-2 lead. The rally was highlighted by a two-run double by Reardon and two-run home run from Devine.
Skidmore got one more back in the seventh on an RBI-single off the bat of senior Justin Morelli (East Setauket, NY/Ward Melville), but the Red Hawks answered once again with a four-run eighth.

Andrew Mondo (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) tied the single-season win mark with his 10th win of the season (10-1). He gave up three runs (two earned) on 10 hits over 7.0 innings, striking out eight, while walking just one. Reardon went 4 for 6 at the plate with three doubles, a home run and four runs batted in.Thoroughbreds junior Jake Mendell (St. George, VT/Champlain Valley) finished 3 for 4 with a run scored and two stolen bases.
Both clubs are back in action this Friday when they take part in the Liberty League Tournament. Game times are TBA.
