Baseball Improves to 2-0 With 8-5 Win Over Husson

Cieszko gets one-out save as Eagles leave bases loaded in the 9th

LEESBURG, Fla. - Senior Scott Robinson (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) hit his first home run of the season and the Rensselaer baseball team went on to defeat Husson University, 8-5. WIth the win, RPI improves to 2-0, while the Eagles fall in their season opener.

Rensselaer got out to quick start platting three runs in the top of the first inning. It tacked on two more before the fifth inning, when Husson pulled to within 5-3, with a three-run bottom of the fifth. The Eagles then tied  the game at 5-5 in the sixth.

The Engineers took the lead back in the seventh and added an insurance run in the top of the ninth, before stranding the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning. Junior Mike Cieszko (Stevenson Ranch, CA/William S. Hart) induced a pop-up to record the final out of the game, while earning his second save in as many days.

RPI senior starting pitcher John Dreimiller (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) worked 4.1 innings, surrendering just three hits, while striking out five. Classmate Ryan Washburn (Gansevoort, NY/Schuylerville) picked up the win, throwing 3.0 innings of scoreless relief.

Offensively, seniors Camden Mamigonian (Dover, NH/Dover) and Andrew Krushelnyski (Bloomfield Hills, MI/Brother Rice) turned in strong performances. Mamigonian went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in, while Krushelnyski finished 3 for 5 with a double, a run and an RBI.
