CANTON, N.Y. - Senior catcher Patrick Reardon (Troy, NY/LaSalle Institute) went 5 for 7 with his team-leading seventh home run of the season as the Rensselaer baseball team rebounded from a doubleheader game 1 loss (7-4) to take game 2 (10-7) in Liberty League action. With the split the Engineers move to 20-13 overall (10-8 Liberty), while the Saints are now 17-16 (10-8 Liberty).

St. Lawrence junior Chris Cook pitched a seven-inning complete game, allowing two earned runs and striking out five to improve to 6-1 on the season in game one. Andrew Mondo took the loss for RPI and had nine strikeouts.

The Engineers struck first in game one as Reardon singled sharply through the middle, was sacrificed to second, moved to third on a single to right and scored on a sacrifice fly by Camden Mamigonian (Dover, NH/Dover) for a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Engineers tacked on two more in the top of the third as Reardon walked, Markus Delello (Sidney, NY/Sidney) singled up the middle and Reardon scored and Delello went to third on a mis-played sacrifice bunt. Delello then scored on Mamigonian's second straight sacrifice fly to center.

The Saints came back with five in the bottom of the third as Ethan Braddock and Bryan Brennan hit back-to-back singles and Carter Franz was hit by a pitch while trying to bunt to load the bases. Ryan Duff singled through the right side of the infield to score Braddock and Rob Carman hit a one-out sacrifice fly to drive in Brennan. Matt D'Auteuil walked and Tim Harris' two-out ground ball was misplayed at third to score Franz. Another error, this one on Garrett Fitzgerald's hard grounder to short scored Duff and D'Auteuil to give the Saints the lead.

St. Lawrence added a run in the bottom of the sixth on a hit and run double by Carman which scored pinch-runner Tom Pasquali from first base. D'Auteuil then hit a infield single off the glove of the third baseman with Carman coming around to score for a 7-3 lead.

Andrew Krushelnyski (Bloomfield Hills, MI/Brother Rice) homered over the left field fence with two out in the top of the seventh to cut the Saint lead to 7-4, but Cook closed out the win with a groundout.

Reardon's homer to right gave RPI a 2-0 lead in the top of the first in game two, but the Saints battled back in the bottom of the second as singles by D'Auteuil and Harris and an error loaded the bases and Braddock singled through the infield at second, scoring two runs as Harris slid around the tag at the plate.

The Saints took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth as Brennan led off with a walk and Franz singled. Duff then hit a ball which was knocked down by the second baseman, but thrown away for an error at first, scoring Brennan. Franz advanced to third on the play and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Carman. RPI came right back in the top of the sixth as Art Levenson hit a two-run homer to left to tie the game at 4-4. Tom Jebb (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) then doubled and after Cody Vincent (Catskill, NY/John A. Coleman) was safe on a fielder's choice shortstop Jonny Rio (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) lined a homer to left to give RPI a 7-4 lead.

Brennan led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to center and Matt DeLuca hit a towering home run down the right field line to cut the Engineers lead to 7-6. Back-to-back singles by Carman and D'Auteuil put runners on first and third and Harris singled down the third base line to tie it at 7-7.

RPI regained the lead in the top of the eighth when Reardon doubled and scored when Mamigonian looped a single into short right which popped out of the glove of a diving Franz for a hit. Consecutive singles by Vincent, Rio and Reardon gave RPI a 10-7 lead in the top of the ninth.

Zach Slater took the loss for the Saints in game two with Jeremy Lockwood-Menard earning the win in relief of starter Dan Duval (Middletown, MA/Masconomet) for RPI with John Dreimiller (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) pitching two scoreless innings to earn the save.

The two teams will head into a Saturday doubleheader (12pm) at Tom Fay Field tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in the league.
