FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Rensselaer baseball team scored four runs with two outs in the seventh inning on its way to defeating St. Joseph's College of Long Island, 10-6, this morning in non-conference action. With the win, the Engineers improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Golden Eagles fall to 0-3.

With the game tied 6-6 heading to the bottom of the seventh, the Engineers loaded the bases with nobody out. After a flyout and popout threatened to end the threat, freshman Brandon Galluppi (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was hit by a pitch to force across the go-ahead run. An infield single by junior Kyle LaVigne (Ashland, MA/Ashland) drove in two more runs, before senior Billy Nikolski (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) capped the scoring with a bases loaded walk.

The game was then called with two outs in the frame, giving Rensselaer its first win of the season.

The Engineers scored early and often, plating two runs in the first and one in the second. After St. Joseph's pulled to within 3-2 in the top of the third, RPI answered with a run-scoring triple by junior Art Levenson (San Diego, CA/University City) and an RBI-single off the bat of sophomore Tanner Boucher (Keene, NH/Keene).

Following a scoreless fourth inning, the Golden Eagles scored four runs in the top of the fifth to take a brief 6-5 lead thanks to a pair of RBI-groundouts and two Rensselaer errors. A St. Joseph's error in the bottom of the sixth allowed the Engineers to tie the game at 6-6, before the Engineers put together their four-run seventh.

Junior Levi Washburn (Gansevoort, NY/Schuylerville) earned his first win as a member of the Engineers tossing 2.1 innings of one-hit ball. RPI starter Mike Campisi (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) gave up two runs on two hits over 4.0 innings, with a strikeout and a walk.

The Golden Eagles saw starter Justin Maravegias (Ronkonkoma, NY/Connetquot) threw 4.0 innings, while allowing five runs on seven hits, with three strikeouts and two walks, but earned a no-decision.

The Engineers are back in action on March 12, when they take on Ripon College in Winter Haven, Fla. (9am).
