Baseball Loses Late to Lakers, 7-6

Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. - The Rensselaer baseball team was upended by SUNYAC opponent Oswego State, 7-6, on Thursday afternoon. The Engineers entered the ninth inning holding a 4-2 advantage and were able to secure the first out before six straight hits propeled a four-run Laker uprising, and a 7-4 Oswego lead.

RPI came back to load the bases with nobody out in their half of the last inning. Rensselaer pushed across two runs, but a double play ball with runners on the corners and one out ended the game.

Every RPI starter had a hit, and the team pounded out 17 for the game, but left 13 runners on base, including nine in scoring position in the first five innings.

The Engineers (3-5) are back in action on Friday to take on the Golden Bears of Western New England, a member of the Commonwealth Coast Conference.  WNE claimed the New England Regional in 2011 and participated in the Division III World Series.  First pitch in Lake Wales, FL is scheduled for 4pm.
