Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team wrapped-up its spring trip in Florida on Saturday, shouldering a 5-0 loss to 23rd-ranked St. Thomas University. With the loss, the Engineers slip to 3-7 on the season, while the Tommies move to 9-2 overall.
St. Thomas scored an unearned run in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead, and added thee earned runs in the fourth on four hits to push the lead to 4-0. The Tommies scratched another across in the ninth for the final margin.
Rensselaer stranded a runner on second base in the first, third, and sixth. The Engineers put runners on first and second with no one out in the sixth, but were unable to capitalize.
Drew Korte took the loss in his first career start, he falls to 1-2 on the season.
Sean Conroy allowed a single run on three hits in 4.2 solid relief innings. The Rensselaer offense had six singles on the day, including two each by
Kyle LaVigne,
Tanner Boucher, and
Andrew Kalish.
The Engineers will be back in action next weekend, as they open Liberty League play at Rochester Institute of Technology. The teams will compete in a pair of doubleheaders on the weekend. It will mark the inaguaral weekend of Liberty League baseball for RIT.
