Walk-off sacrifice fly lifts Rams to victory

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Ryan Levine drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Farmingdale State baseball team to a, 2-1, victory over Rensselaer, this afternoon in non-conference play. With the win, the Rams improve to 5-4 overall, while the Engineers drop to 0-2.

Each team plated a run in the fifth inning, follow strong starts by the respective starting pitchers. Farmingdale's Chris Phalen (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) surrendered just the one run on seven hits over nine innings to earn the complete game win, while RPI starter Mike Campisi (Kings Point, NY/Kings Point) went five strong innings, giving up a run on three hits, with three strikeouts

RPI sophomore Eric Kozak (New York, NY/Dalton School) led off the top of the fifth with a triple and scored on a groundout by Kyle LaVigne (Ashland, MA/Ashland). The hosts run came on an RPI-single from Frank Scarlato (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North).

The game remainded scoreless until the bottom of the ninth, when a Levine (West Babylon, NY/North Babylon) drove a ball to center, scoring freshman Thomas Rydzewski (Franklin School, NY/Carey) from third base.

The Engineers are back in action on Saturday, when they face the College of Brockport for a doubleheader, starting at 10am.
